Can iuds cause problems during intercourse??

Question: My husband complains that he can feel what we assume is my iud strings during sex (maybe 50% of the time). I have no cramps or spotting and had an ultrasound that shows the iud is in place. He says it is sharp and painful and, needless to say, spoils the mood. Anyone heard of similar stories? Any idea what the solution is other than taking out the iud?
Answers: I have heard of this, because when I got mine put in the doctor told me that this may happen, and that the remedy is quite simple. She told me it will happen if the strings are too long and they need to be trimmed a little to suit your husbands length. Make an appointment and get those things cut down a little.
My husband complains of the same thing that he can feel the string. He told me it bothered him. He offered to get a vasectomy if I take it out which will work for us when he gets that done. However, if you don't want that done, the Nuvaring worked really well for me before I had my IUD placed. It's a hairband sized plastic ring that you insert once a month then take it out for a week for your period. Good luck.
