Birth control??
Question: I cannot take any hormonal birth control and am not ready for any permanent solutions. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Answers: There are several barrier methods besides condoms: diaphragm, cervical cap, and Lea's Shield. All must be used with spermicides to be most effective. To raise the efficacy rate even further, I would recommend combining a barrier method with periodic abstinence/rhythm planning.
There is also an intra-uterine device that greatly differs from a standard non-hormonal Copper-T (ParaGard) IUD. Its called Gynefix; a string of flexible, non-framed copper beads is attached to the fundus (top) of your uterus. The copper causes irritation in the uterine cavity, prohibiting implantation of the embryo. If you're not opposed to this sort of method, it is HIGHLY effective, has far less side effects than a T-shaped IUD, and is extremely well tolerated, even by women who have not had children. Its a long term, non-permanent alternative you could look into.
Simple, no sex.
The Para-Guard Copper IUD is a non hormonal solution which is fairly reliable, safe, and doesn't require day to day thought. IUD's are recommended only for women in a monogamous relationship, with little risk of STD's, as they provide no protection against them, and can actually increase some risks associated with contracting certain ones.
Condoms without spermicide are an option if the spermicide bothers you. You could also look into a diaphragm, but both of these require proper usage to be effective, and involve thinking about it in the heat of the moment.
If you're unmarried, I'd say abstinence is the 100% foolproof way to keep from getting pregnant (obviously). If you're married, you could use the rhythm method (pulling out) or condoms.
Don't have sex...there's always that option ;-)
IUD.
I have the same problem...but I have the added problem of being allergic to Latex. The only thing that works for me...is abstinence. Not sure how helpful that is...Sorry.
Check out the IUD, supposed to be very effective and you're not supposed to even know it's there.
