If you suffer from Anxiety disorders, do you think acting "as if" you aren't so afflicted will help??

Answers: Well, if you're medicated FIRST and in therapy SECOND, and still having some anxiety attacks (I know I do), not necessarily acting like nothing's wrong, but sort of 'riding' the wave of panic can be very effective. If you can recognize what's going on and sort of take an out-of-body view of your experience, it will be less terrifying and less over-the-top. It's a hard thing to put into words sometimes, but if you LOOK and examine your feelings instead of just feeling them, you can, like I said, 'ride' them out and they will be less traumatic.
My boyfriend is bi-polar and acted as if he wasn't sick until he had a psycotic episode and jeapordized our families emotional and financial well-being by disappearing for 3 weeks. He didn't want to admit to me or himself that he had a mental illness. It has caused a big strain on our relationship but we are working things out slowly. I'm all for full disclosure of things like that. You are not only hurting yourself, but those around you.

maybe hun, it might work but remember that is kind of what denial is. Make sure you deal with the problem along with the comforting behavior.:)
It helps to ease the difficulty of having to feel that way, bu I guess you should see a real professional to help you with your anxiety disorders. Maybe they'll give you prescription drugs or try a therapy of some sort.

Hope this helps.

Peace ^_^
It will only help temporarily. Don't act too long or that road will lead you to psychotic - you won't be able to tell the difference between what is real and not real.

Get a diagnosis Zardoz and quit fooling around with your mental health.
yes it will. its called a placebo affect. You believe that something will help enough that it actually does.
yes and no positive thining is great it does help however many cases including mine u need pills for me prozac klonepin to take the edge off to begin that process
It helps to a point. If it's a little anxiety, acting as if is possible and helpful. If a lot of anxiety, I can't act as if. Too anxious to be able to do it.
It doesn't help, I tried for 3 years. Gradually I got worse. Doctors kept putting me on anti-depressants. I needed something for anxiety.
