Does milk really worsen your illness such as throat and runny noses??

Question: I was just wondering if this is true or not, since my friends keep saying that it does worsen the sickness from sore throats to runny noses, fevers, etc. I just wanted to see if this is really true or not.
Answers: Some people complain that when they have dairy products, their throat feels coated and mucus is thicker and harder to swallow. Recent research has shown that these feelings are due to the texture of the fluid and occur with similar liquids of the same thickness (viscosity). This coating effect is not due to increased production of mucus. Furthermore, symptoms are short-lived and not related to illness.
if u are allergic to milk...u may get worse symptoms..there is no scientific study linked to milk aggravating the above symptoms..but is a fact that as adults God had nt intended us to digest milk well..
If you have a runny or a stuffy nose, of the flu, etc., milk or any other dairy products will make any mucus or phlegm thicker and make it harder for you to cough up (or as they say in the medical profession, make your coughs less productive ) Your best bet when you are under the weather includes breathing steam, drinking lots of water and clear beverages like broth or consomme to thin out mucual secretions and eating a healthy balanced diet without the dairy products.
Milk tends to thicken the mucus so it can keep your sinuses from draining as they should and the drainage will cause your throat to be sore.

Avoid dairy products, fried foods and orange juice if you have sinus problems or a cold. The quickest way to help a sore throat and open up sinuses is to take a 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper in one to two cups hot water. Some people gargle with it, but I find it more effective to sip it slowly. It sounds odd (like why would you want something so spicy hot on a sore throat), but I woke up last Saturday with no voice at all and started on this in the evening Saturday and by Monday I was almost back to a normal voice. Even after a day of teaching on Tuesday, I was doing well. I didn't use it at all Tuesday night because I ran out, and here it is Wed. night and I have virtually no voice again.

My chiropractor told me about the dairy products and it changed my sinuses from 4 infections a year to 2 infections in 8 years. BIG difference.
yes. this is because milk and dairy products like cheese all form a thick mucus after you eat then. ( when i was younger i used to make spit bubble after drinking milk) this is because your body cant absorb milk the same way as water. if you are sick the best thing to drink is orange juice beacuse it is easy to abosorb due to its high sugar levels, and its acidic so it helps clear out flem
Yeah, when I started drinking milk every day, I noticed that my colds worsen. SO I stopped drinking milk, fortunately, I'm becoming well now.
Does Milk Make Mucus?

Is the warning not to drink milk when you have a cold an old doctor's tale? Yes and no. Some people do make more mucus when they drink milk, and any high- fat food may produce a sensation of thicker secretions in the back of the throat. Yet, the mucus-producers are probably those that are allergic to milk. Separating out milk-allergic persons, research fails to show any correlation between drinking milk and mucus production during a cold. In conclusion, you need extra fluids during a cold, anyway, so if you're not allergic it's okay to drink a few glasses of lowfat milk.
The only way to get dmt is from a dead human being, for it lyes in the brain. DMT(Psychedelic drug) is released into our bloodstream upon death and through out the brain, the brain is alive for 10 to 15 minutes upon death. Is the bright light we see upon death the chemical release of D.M.T. Do we TRIP when we die?how would you feel if it was?
it can make you feel more congested due to it's thickness and if you have a high fever it can make your stomach upset b/c the milk can curdle (spoil) inside your stomach due to the heat.

it won't necessarily worsen your illness though

colds, and flus are viral so they will run their course no matter what you eat, drink, medicate with, etc. they usually take about 10-14 days to clear up
Milk increases the body's production of mucus. So, it will cause increased congestion/runny noses, etc.
yes it does worsen your sickness
yea milk is thick so it generates more mucus, that strangy stuff you cough up that looks like noodle
Not true.
notmilk.com

Great website. All about milk and why it can be harmful with a cold and other stuff.
well... Milk isn't the best thing to drink if you have a fever, simply because it can make you vomit(that's why you don't drink milk or have dairy when you are already nauseous). Milk coats your throat, so many singers avoid drinking milk when they have a gig, so it can coat your throat and make the runny nose seem worse, especially when it's running down your neck to your stomach(that doesn't help with vomiting).

I hope this helps!
I believe it is true because it happens 2 me all the time.
not really a soar throat or runny nose, but if you have a bad cough, you'll end up congested with lots of phlem.
there are many different opinions on this. some feel it may be an allergic response to milk that increases mucous production but there are other articles that say this is not true so who really knows. Not me that's for sure but I do avoid milk products when I have a cold.
