Can I take my anti-anemic iron vitamins (folic acid) with milk??

Question: My mom said that I shouldn't take my iron vitamins with milk as it is not good. She won't say the reason why though.. so.. I would like to know if something will happen if I do take it with milk. will there be side effects?
Answers: I don't think there are any side effects, but milk lines the stomach, which means that it will take a lot longer for the iron to be absorbed by your blood. The best drink to take Iron supliments with is juice: orange, grapefruit, the like. This will help your body absorb the iron more quickly as it is a lighter substance and has vitamins in it which aid absorption. So something with vitamin c in it is what you want to take.
I took my iron pills with milk sometimes and it didnt do anything to me . . but you might react different. Upset stomach . . . diareha (spelling?) maybe . . .depends on you.
It's better to take with orange juice, as vitamin C assists iron absorption. I think that milk might slow the iron from being efficiently absorbed. Also dairy and iron supplements can be binding, so be sure to drink plenty of caffeine-free beverages and eat plenty of fiber to avoid constipation.
There will be no side effect, all milk does is coat your stomach..
