I have a problem with tension in my legs...??

Question: When I sit down I am constantly, and unconsciously, bouncing one or more of my legs up and down on my toes. When I try to stop, all I can think about is the tension in my legs and how I am trying to not move my legs anymore. I do this even when I am alone but this makes me look insecure in social situations and it's pissing me off quite frankly. Has anyone experienced this and have a solution? I am 5 6 and 160 lbs if that's important. Thanks
Answers: So my question for you is.....do you feel burning or tingling sensations in your legs?? Do you feel that you need to move them even when you are trying to sleep??? If so then its very possible that you have Restless Legs Syndrome or RLS. There are medications that can help with it. I would see a dr and see what he thinks. Good luck.
Here is what I advise. You need to get at the root of the problem, not just the symptom. You need to change your lifestyle so you have a healthy, relaxed lifestyle.

I suggest first- start changing your eating habits. Cut out all junk food- no candy, potato chips, sodas, ice cream, etc. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, beans, grains, nuts, and (only the small kind) fish, and cut way down on meat, dairy products, and refined grains.

Second, exercise daily- running, biking, etc.- also strength training and daily stretching. You need to have a balance of all 3 for best health- strength, endurance and flexibility.

Third- rest. Besides getting adequate sleep at night and a regular bedtime, you need to do some daily relaxation exercises. There are many different types of meditation/relaxation exercises you can try. Do what works for you.

If you do all of this, the tension in your legs will gradually go away. Do not just wait for the leg movements to start and then try to control it- it won't work. Don't take some sort of medications for it. And don't worry about it- no one else really cares about it. It's normal for young people to be self-conscious. Don't be normal- be abnormal by being less self-conscious and don't worry about what other people might be thinking about it.

Best wishes.
