Anyone else have issues with codeine? And what can cause issues??
Question: have had horrible stomach cramping and pain whenever I have taken codeine. So bad that I was literally on the floor crying with the pain. I couldn't sit or stand I felt like I was going to die. I looked up side effects and nothing mentions what happens to me. The first time it happened was after my gall bladder surgery. I though it was constipation and drank a bottle of prune juice. Boy was that a mistake. :) And the next time was after I had my wisdom teeth pulled. It was worse the second time. Its weird bc I have taken it previous to the surgery and nothing bad happened. Can anyone think to why this may be happening and has this ever happened to anyone else?

Codeine commonly causes nausea and stomach upset.
Just make sure you tell your doctors in the future and they can use a different pain med.
it could be an allergic reaction. have you had the same reaction to other narcotics? have you taken it with food? talk with your doctor. there may be another kind of pain reliever that would help you without the stomach pain.
Yes, I had severe stomach cramps with Codeine. I could take it when I was younger, but not now. Get the Dr to give you something else and stay away from Codeine.
I cannot take codeine because it makes me sick at my stomach. It sounds like that's what you were experiencing. It's been my experience that if I talk to my doctor he'll usually give me a different narcotic (like Vicodin) for pain control. Also, I've learned to NEVER take any pain medication on an empty stomach.
