How can you tell if a person died in their sleep or while still awake and if they were in pain or at peace??

Question: My mother-in-law supposedly died in her sleep a couple of nights ago but when I went into the hospital room to see her before they sent her off to the funeral home she didn't look like she was at peace at all. She was laying on the couch in her living room when she died and was still in the same position she was found in but her eyes were open and she looked like she could just have easily been awake. Anyway, I know even after I get an answer to my question that it won't change anything but for some reason I've just been dying to know. I'd just like to know how the doctor would know some thing like that for sure with out running any tests or doing an autopsy. Also, the doctor assures us she died of natural causes but I don't understand how he could know that for sure because he couldn't even tell us what killed her.
Answers: If she died in her living room how was she still in the same position at the hospital, that is strange. Why don't you have them perform an autopsy, that will tell you what killed her.
Plug into a ouija board and ask them for yourself.
I don't know, but I hate that natural causes thing, because a lot of times, someone is old, so they just say oh, yeah, they're old, must have been old age .
Well, duh. But you ALWAYS die of something, there's always a cause.
If they don't know, then there should be an autopsy.
