A Question about Steve Irwin...??
Question: If the stingray barb wasn't pulled out...plugging the hole in his chest, would there had been a chance he wouldn't have died?

Stingrays
Species - Over 35 species
Description
Stingrays are a triangular flat shape. With a tapering tail that is armed with one or more spines. Most of them don’t have pelvic or dorsal fins. Stingrays are not usually aggressive.
Habitat
Stingrays live in warm and tropical areas. As the climate gets cooler they move to a deeper place.Stingrays are not usually aggressive. They rummage on the sea bottom and only attack if they have been stepped on or threatened. They feed on molluscs, small fish, worms and other little creatures.
Venom
Although stingrays are venomous, the major clinical problem is often related to mechanical trauma from the sting.
First Aid. It may produce severe penetrating injuries or and subsequent infection, including tetanus. Envenomation may result in increasing local pain which may spread to involve the entire limb, with swelling and a characteristic bluish white appearance of the wound. Systemic symptoms are rare, but may include nausea and vomiting, muscle cramps, diarrhea, salivation, sweating, syncope, cardiac arrhythmias and convulsions
Given the barb went into his heart and the above reactions to the venom, I doubt he would have servived, even if he left the barb in his chest.
No, I think he would have still died. That was a pretty big stingray. Sure was a shame. I really liked that guy.
Nope. No chance.
I believe that the reaction was instantaneous. He didn't think about what he was doing, it was like an instinct. He was so used to animals that, when they struck, he could just jump, run, or push them away, and when he was in the water, it was a different situation. The whole thing made me really sad, but I still believe that no matter if the barb was pulled out or not, it would have caused death.
No it was his time to go.Sure will miss him on TV
I think he would have made it to the hospital
There is a chance
It is hard to tell, though as not very many details were released. If the barb was in place plugging the hole, perhaps he would have survived a little longer and maybe even made it to hospital.
But maybe not.
No, I don't think so... The barb injected a poison, like a needle would. it went directly to his heart....
This is sad...but this it.
I think so. Maybe he shouldn't of pulled it out, got to the hospital and then they could of figured it out from there. But HE pulled it out himself. You would of thought he would of left it in there but maybe he was in shock.
Possibly.
I am from fl and was raised around the ocean and know a little bit about different things in the ocean.Yes the sting ray barb would have killed steve irwin one it punctured his heart, plus the barb is poisonous and it is excrutating pain.I lived in the fl keys and have seen people stung on the back of the legs from them. Its not usually fatal though.
no he would have stil dies cause it went through his heart and because the barb is pointy it wouldent have plugged all of it in fact if he left it in he would have died a slow painful death with his body filling with blood
i didnt want him to die but its a glad thing he did take it out what would u rather slow and painful or fast and quick death i would prefer quick death
It is a good possibility.
