Treatment

Underlying causes are treated. Pain may be treated with oral analgesics (eg, NSAIDs, acetaminophen). Patients with temporomandibular disorder should see a dentist experienced in its treatment and should avoid chewing gum and hard foods when experiencing symptoms.

Earache is often caused by trauma resulting from ear irrigations. Patients should not perform ear irrigations unless instructed by a physician to do so, and then only gently. An oral irrigator should never be used to irrigate the ear.
Your dentist should have told you which pain medications to use Please follw instructions with these as it is easy to take too much. Is the pain in mums ear or is it just below into mums neck. Where the teeth removed because of infection Mum may need to be on antibiotics. Contact your dentist if not able to go see a doctor for a check up
Heat up a little olive oil and squeeze a few drops in the ear.
The same nerves running through your ears go to your jaw. Check to see if the Dr. gave her any pain meds to help during the aftercare. If not, try ibuprofen and call the dentist tomorrow and see if you can get a prescription.
Take two ibuprofen (Advil) and use a heating pad with a cover rest your ear against the warmth. You can also purchase at Wal-Mart some ear drops that will numb the area giving immediate relief.
Use a heat pack and put it on low, and rest it on the ear. It helps a lot!
Good luck and tell your mom I'm sorry she's feeling bad!
I use to hold a warm face cloth or water bottle on my upper jaw, which is where the pain was. I often have what it seems are each aches. But, I just have a lot of damage in my jaw from getting my tonsils removed. So, what works best for me is holding something warm against it, and I usually take an Advil or ibuprofen.

Good luck,
