The spinal cord??

Question: Is the spinal cord actually a long cord that you pull out of the spinal cavity? Or is it broken up into segments? Or is cartilage or a jelly substance?

I was just thinking about this today in anatomy and physilogy but I didn't ask.

If a person just died, could you cut them open and pull out their spinal cord (I guess is my question)?

Thanks
Answers: Did you ever clean a fish ?
the spinal cord is a tube of nerves and inside it carries cerebro-spinal fluid that also surrounds your brain.
It can't be transplanted due to the complexity of disconnecting and reconnecting all the nerves to the brain.
BUT spinal cord can be regrown/regenerated inside the human body with stem cells :-)
