Can it be treated ??

Question: please help?
hi there what is Sarcoidosis?? my sister has got it and i am very scared! can it be treated ???? could the person die from it ?
Answers: Sarcoidosis is believed to be one of the autoimmune diseases where the body attacks itself. Any body organ can be affected especially lungs, skin, eyes and lymph nodes.

There is unfortunately no cure, though steroids suppress the condition. Cytotoxic drugs have been tried with some success and more recently thalidomide.

Mortality in sacoid is low at about 2%.
New treatments are on the way for autoimmune related diseases.
The private hospital below should have all the latest information.
Yes, it can be treated If you find the right solution...
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease. It starts as tiny, grain-like lumps called granulomas, which most often appear in your lungs or lymph nodes. They can clump together and form larger lumps that attack other organs. Sarcoidosis often affects your skin, eyes or liver.

Sarcoidosis may be mild, or it can be severe and do lasting damage. It does not always cause symptoms, so you can have it without knowing it. Symptoms vary, depending on which organs are affected.

No one is sure what causes sarcoidosis. It affects men and women of all ages and races worldwide. However, it occurs mostly in people ages 20 to 40, African Americans, especially women, and people of Asian, German, Irish, Puerto Rican and Scandinavian origin.

Sarcoidosis granulomas (masses of inflamed tissue, or lumps) result from a response of the immune system. Most medications used to treat sarcoidosis suppress the immune system. This can leave a person more likely to get sick from an infection, and this risk must be considered in making treatment decisions.

Removing granulomas is not an option. Surgery does not treat the underlying problem that causes the granulomas. In fact, granulomas can form around surgical scars.

Different treatments will work better for different people, and sometimes more than one is used. In some cases, no treatment is needed. But, for some patients, intense treatment is required, especially if organs like the lungs, eyes, heart or central nervous system are affected. Good communication with your doctor may mean that your treatment plan is more successful. Asking questions about the selection of medications and any possible side effects, as well as reporting any changes in your symptoms are very important. Remember the FSR PATH to good health when talking to your doctor!

Hope this helps. :-)
