Question: How often does one die from this?

Usually the only people that die from an E. Coli outbreak are the young who have underdeveloped immune systems, the elderly whose immune systems are weakened by illness or other medications or those that are on immune suppressive medications.

The average, healthy adult will be rather sick from E. Coli and may even require hospitalization, but typically they will not die from the illness.
It is a very dangerous microbe. You don't want it in your blood stream because it can cause sepsis, and yes, death, if not treated aggressively.
