Crohns disease??
Question: i have had crohns disease for 5 years now, and i know that when i eat anything that is greasy (like mcdonalds and other take away food) it makes me really really sick and was just wondering what food affects other crohns sufferers?
Answers: hi lisa, I am a female crohnie like yourself. I have had this disease since the age of 12. I am now 39.
Certain foods affect us differently. I know that I can't eat corn or anything that can cause a blockage such as brussel sprouts, nuts, popcorn, etc.
The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America has a website along with a hotline and chatline run by healthcare professionals well versed in IBD. the number is 1-888-my- gut-pain. There is alot of information you can find regarding diet, medications, surgery, female issues, etc. If you click on chapters and events on the left side, then click on your state, you will be able to find a local support chapter near you. They have educational meetings too where there are speakers such as dieticians, drug reps, and even GI surgeons.
Are you aware the female IBD pts. can not take hormone birthcontrol? When we flare up, our blood tends to become sticky due to inflammation in our blood stream thus causing clotting. When you add a hormone to the mix, it increases the chance for a clot even a stroke over 75%.
I added a link to the American Dietician Assoc. for you. You can locate a registered dietician near you if you need information on what to eat when you are not feeling well. They work with people who have all types of illnesses and have special dietary needs. I met with one before I was discharged at my last hospital stay. She gave me a list of what to eat and avoid which really helped out when I'm not feeling well and can't think straight.
I hope this helps you out. feel free to email me if you have questions. :)
without wasting your time one should eat well-balanced diet with a few restrictions since lactose intolerance is common trial off diary product is warrented patient with mainly clonic involvement benefit from fiber supplementation conversely one with obstructive symptoms should be placed on low rough age fruits i.e no fruits or vegetables nuts and popcorn Vita b12 is recommended if ileal resection was done this about the food about the disease you can email me well come any time
Fatty foods, dairy products, spicy foods and wheat products for me.
It is probably a good idea to avoid any spicy foods & gas producing foods when you have a flareup of the disease - Carbonated soft drinks can be a problem too!
I actually have Ulcerative Colitis - similar disease. I have a niece who has Crohns disease.
My GI doc put me on a food intolerance diet to discover which foods irritated my system because everyone is different. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you consult a specialist. Also do some research on Inflammatory bowel diseases. Choose a reputable web site when doing this research because there are some questionable ones out there!!!
This disease can be very debilitating - I lost my colon several years ago! Sometimes Crohns can be managed with lifestyle changes and diet changes but often requires medication and continual monitoring by a healthcare professional.
Good luck with your quest, become informed and proactive in your health care!
