My dad is an alcoholic, how can he die from this??

Question: my dad is a SEVERE alcoholic who has been to rehab four times and detox over 12 times. This disease has too strong of a grip on him and im convinced he wont get better. He doesnt want to.

Out of curiousity i want to know how this disease can kill him besides through liver problems, because miraculously his liver is fine. Actually thats a lie, i wish he was dead becasue then both him and our family would not have to live through this horrific misery anymore.

So if anyone knows about how alcohol can kill a person, please share you knowledge.
Answers: As well as the answers already written, one of the surest ways to kill himself is to have an accident whilst under the influence.
If he drives, operates machinery or even just crossing the road; all these things become dangerous not just for him but anyone around.

Get him some help!
kidneys could stop working, liver and he could over dose on it from to much all the time or to strong
however dont give up on him he may still recover before it is to late
he would not of went to rehab so much if he wasnt trying to get better

and i know alot of chruches that have recovery programs
might look to God for the right answer
first are you okay there are al ot of support groups for people there are teen groups available alcoholism is a mental disorder your first concern should be about yourself and as far as your second question dying from this is a very long and angonizing death first your liver fails your liver is a major toxin remover and when it fails your body can no longer remove poisonous toxins and chemicals from your body the liver also produces and use vitamin k which helps in bllod clooting in your body . the toxins build up in your body and you become confused you start to hallucianate and you evently will start to bleed easily your whole body willl shut down because of the high toxin levels its not pretty ive been in a nurse for 17 yrs this is the most hooorble death seek help immeditely
It killed my uncle, he was told to stop drinking or die. He chose to die. His main organs just began shutting down and when one failed, they all do. It is not just killing your liver! Once swallowed, a drink enters the stomach and small intestine, where small blood vessels carry it to the bloodstream. Approximately 20% of alcohol is absorbed through the stomach and most of the remaining 80% is absorbed through the small intestine.
Alcohol is metabolized by the liver, where enzymes break down the alcohol. Understanding the rate of metabolism is critical to understanding the effects of alcohol. In general, the liver can process one ounce of liquor (or one standard drink) in one hour. If you consume more than this, your system becomes saturated, and the additional alcohol will accumulate in the blood and body tissues until it can be metabolized. This is why pounding shots or playing drinking games can result in high blood alcohol concentrations that last for several hours.
liver failure, alcohol poisoning
The blood alcohol level gets so high that it affected parts of the brain and nervous system that control breathing, heartbeat, and related body functions. The he can die because he stops breathing and his heart stops beating, usually while they are unconscious.

He vomits while unconscious, inhale the vomitus, and suffocates. There are also occasional reports of an unconscious drinker choking on his own tongue.

The alcohol reactsin combination with some other drug - over the counter, prescription, or illegal. These deaths can happen at a relatively low blood alcohol level
I'm sorry. My dad was an alcoholic and died from cirrhosis (liver disease) in October. It was a horrible experience for everyone - I loved him more than anything - so it was very hard for me. I understand your anger. He could get alcohol poisoning, vomit when he's passed out. Not sure if he drives - but he can get into a car accident.

It's not my business - but you say your convinced he won't get better - I had those same feelings with my dad. All I could do is love him and know no matter what I did or said the decisions he made were up to him. It's a horrible position to be in.

So - anyway - I hope everything turns out OK :)
