Is crohns disease fatal ?if so what percent of people die from it??

Answers: It depends on your definition of fatal. If you mean, Will you die soon? , then no, it is not fatal. Depending on how successful treatments are, and how drastically a surgery can be, EVENTUALLY you can die from complications of it.....like many years down the road. A car could hit you or old age may come first. A not so long time ago, people did die, because essentially they ended up starving to death from no way to absorb nutrition.

Now, there can be complications that could make you seriously ill, but with today's medicine, there is no reason why those complications can't be treated. I had a friend who after years of struggling with Crohn's, eventually formed too many fistulas that got infected, and eventually died from the infections. She was 50 when she died, and she had Crohn's from the time she was 15.
No, it just makes you wish you were. It's very painful.

Listen to your doctors and modify your diet as they see fit.

I hope you feel better soon.
no. it's manageable. talk to a gastroenterologist.
I can't give you a % of how many people die from it, but I'm sure most who have it think they may! Is it fatal, I think not, just certain changes are needed to be made in ones diet to lessen the attacks.
From what exposure I have had with this disorder, it's a pain in the anus, but not fatal. Keep in contact with your physican and they should be able to direct you to the proper diet for your condition.
Nope. Talk with your doctors and ask them about treatments. I've heard that Remicade (usually prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis) can help.
Hi - try and contact NACC (National Association for Colitis and Crohn's) if you're getting duff information from the Doctors - it's something you die WITH, not die FROM and it can definately be managed if you're careful with your diet.
