Diabetes Study. What in the world are diabetics supposed to do now??
Question: I'm good about taking my medicine hoping to keep my numbers down. I'm still taking Avandia, even though studies have shown the bad side effects that result. My doctor has not discussed the findings on either the Avandia report or the one that discusses that tight control really has little bearing on whether you will get and possible die from diabetes complications. I'm thinking about stopping the medicine, and going all natural. How are we supposed to trust these drug companies whose main concern seems to be to get these drugs on the market as soon as possible, not the safety of the people who take their drugs. It seems that money is their only real concern and we're just guinea pigs. I's like they'll make all the money they can and so what if a few people die from the medication itself - we'll have our billions by the time they take it off the market.
Answers: Best thing to do is to go with a medicine that has been proven effective with the least amount of side efects.
Diet and exercise are very helpful for diabetics.
Good luck.
Understand that all medication have side effects and good medicine balances the potential side effects with potential benefits. Also, one study or a small group of studies doesn't necessarily provide the whole picture. There were studies back in the 50's on the sulphonamide drugs that seemed to indicate that heart attacks were a serious side effect of the drug but many people felt that the research was flawed.
Although I'm quite sure that drug companies, like every other company put a high premium on the bottom line, one thing that tends to keep them in line is that bottom line can be adversely effected by the tort lawsuits that a bad product will bring on. As long as we have trial lawyers and the government doesn't place a limit on torts, drug companies will have to think long and hard before they place or leave a product on the market that can be proven to harm patients.
Go back to the tried and tested older meds!!! I am taking Metformin ER and insulin.
I took the ActosplusMet for a few months. It caused extreme edema for me.
Guess what? the ARB combo med the doctor Rx'd for me wasn't doing a thing other than causing edema also. Those are $$$$ meds. I am back on one of the older single meds now and have lost about 20 pounds of water weight. My blood pressure is in line now with the new guidelines. Can slide my rings off most days now!! I have worn them for 40 years!!
I am not going to try any more of the new meds that are supposed to do this and that for us!! I will stick with those at least 5 years on the market.
Hang in there. A couple of complete cures have been formulated in Canada and the United States. If we can get them released to those who need them without the drug companies cutting them off, we may have help coming. Of course the FDA says they need to be tested because maybe they could kill us but I would be glad to volunteer for the testing.
if the drugs weren't safe to take then the doctors would not be able to prescribe them to patients, the government are the ones that allow certain drugs to allowed to be used and they are very strict on this.
