Whats the best high protein foods to eat??
Question: I am tryint to start bulking up by going to the gym and eating a lot of protein. However, I am allergic to milk so I have trouble getting the 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Most protein powders have lactose in them an the ones that dont are too expensive. Protein bars are also out of the question. I am trying to avoid red meat as well because I heard it isn't healthy to consume too often. Please help me find a healthy protein source that is affordable, healthy and lactose free!
Answers: Based on your criteria, canned tuna is probably your best bet. An average can has 23g of protein and maybe 1-2g of fat, most of which is unsaturated, AKA the good kind. Also, a can of tuna is fairly inexpensive, readily available and filling.
Make sure to get white tuna as the light tuna usually has more fat and less protein, although usually cheaper.
Tuna does have a fair amount of cholesterol, although not as much as red meat. If low fat is part of your diet, try not to mix it with Mayo, and stick to the kind packed in water, not oil.
nuts and beans very natural and healthy for you beware of salt tho
Fish
you can buy soy protein powder for the same price as whey protein at GNC
but foods...
chicken
meat (as you said)
soy lecithin, found in vegetables and tofu
eggs (preferably just the whites), there is no more protein in an egg yolk than in an egg white... that's just a myth
im lactose intolerant myself and i try to aim for other protein and calcium intake for my bones and bllod health.
Baked beans and in fact all pulses are high in protien, also eggs.
I really advise you to think about eating a few ounces of red meat each day, make sure its fat free. Even if you are trying to bulk up avoid animal fats and don't eat visible fats. We need a certain amount of good fat (eg olive oils) per day., however not much.
organic beans
