Lookin to lose 5 pounds. I have some q's??
Question: im 17, 5'5 . 140 lbs. I want to lose 5 pounds of fat off my stomach. I run 2 miles, 5 times a week. ( at about 8 minutes per mile). I drink only water and milk. What kinds of foods should I avoid and look for, to lose body fat? What about Carbs? Sugar? Fiber intake?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Answers: You're not fat. If you calculate your body mass index, for your height and weight you're considered healthy. You wouldn't be considered over weight until 150 lbs. Don't worry about it too much.
Here's how I'm losing some weight:
Avoid carbs and sugar. Eat protein and vegetables.
Avoid: bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, fruit juice (since fruit contains fructose which is just as bad as sugar), pizza (because of the dough), ketchup. Read the lables on things. If they contain sugar or are high in carbs, stay away.
Eat: green vegetables like broccoli and spinach, non breaded fish, any meat that isn't breaded or contain bread crumbs, hard cheese, a few nuts, berries (1/2 cup), milk (homo and cream have least carbs), mustard, hot sauce (if it's sugar free), salad dressing, olive oil, olives, pickles
Drink: water, diet pop, green tea, coffee with Splenda instead of sugar. No Gatorade, fruit juice and pop must be sugar free
This way of eating let me lose 15 lbs in less than 3 months. We store carbs and sugar as fat so reducing them means you will burn fat. I don't think this diet is healthy for long term but it works great to lose weight quickly.
I read the books: Atkins Diet and South Beach Diet. Read and research a diet carefully before you begin. You have to know what problems it can cause and signs to watch out for, etc.

The girl above me, Barrel is right too. I've read a lot about dieting. Her way is healthier than what I said.
Good Luck
whatever you do don't go on the atkins diet, just try to follow the food pyramid.

fiber will help clean out the system so fiber is good. Eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Stay away from sweets and salts. Drink lots of water. You sound like you're in great shape! Keep up the excellent work!

im 15 and 5'2'' and weigh 135.
but i find that for ab excersizes, leg raises and putting weights on your legs ad lifting them tightens up the muscles of the tummy area. the running you do is good. but a way to lose some of that is to eat less salty food that make your fat retain water. also eat smaller meals with little snacks of fruit, yogurt, a glass of milk, or veggies in between each meal and your metabolism will have less work to do before you eat the next time.
oh! and excersize before you eat. it burns off many more calories. drink lots of water!
if you want to loose weight do sit ups in the morning and at night or when u have free time....try to run more....join cross country...chew a lot of gum...it will keep you full and make sure you drink TONS of water!!!!! especially in the morning because then your metabolism speeds up and your more full and you are satisfied
you also need to do is get help from your parents. You will need to eat 500 calories less than what you normally eat and exercise for about a half hour each day. Stay away from foods with bad fats (saturated and trans) and foods that are high in carbohydrates (pasta, rice). I know it sounds cliche but eat a lot of veggies and fruits and drink lots of water, especially while you're having your meal to trick you stomach into thinking you have eaten more than you actually have.
• Just keep it simple... here's how:-
1) Eat more steam food, lean meat, vegies and fruits
2) Cut out the junk food, soda drinks and snacks
3) drink plenty of water / green tea
4) Exercise - look at combining weights and cardio into your program. you can look at alternating upper and lower body exercises without rest, say bicep curls, then lunges , rest and repeat. With cardio, try sprinting 100m, jog 100m and repeat.

7) have an action plan for long term goals, start off with small goals and increase it gradually over time. Get your parents involved to live a healthy lifestyle and be active. Doing it together is better then going it alone!
oh and......You're probably too young to lift weights, so I would suggest running, jogging, and walking for exercise. You could also rollerblade, bike, jump rope... anything that will get your heart pumping and sweating
Avoid foods that are high in sugars: candy, soda, cookies, and other sweets. Also avoid foods that are high in fats, especially fried foods (like french fries and chicken nuggets from fast food places, and potato chips.) Try not to eat a lot of salty foods.
Drink milk every day, and again lots and lots of water.
For snacks, eat fruit, cheese that isn't too high in fat (like cheddar or even string cheese), light yogurt, fat free pudding... Switch to wheat bread instead of white. Eat at least a couple servings of vegetables per day (they'll fill you up but are low in calories).
You don't really need to know that much about carbohydrates, etc. You probably already know which foods are healthy and which ones aren't so good. Just use your common sense and don't eat until you are so full you can barely move :) Goo
