Vegetarianism??
Question: I don't necessarily want to become a vegetarian, but I was wondering about the pros and cons of this type of lifestyle?
[assuming one eats fish, eggs, milk , etc.]
Answers: pros: it's more difficult to eat tans fat and excess amounts of saturated fat, it's also difficult to obtain high levels of cholestrol(however some fishes do have alot), and well fish will help balance out your omega-3 to omega-6 efa levels.
cons: It's difficult to get whole protiens every 3 hours, which a neccessity when trying to lose fat or increase muscle, although fruits and veggies do have protiens their not whole protiens there are certain amino acids your body can't produce on it's own and need to be eaten through diet, a protien containing all of these is called a whole protien and meats the only source of whole protiens.
if you still eat fish and eggs though, that's not considered vegetarianism, if your just trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle then eat white meat too.
haha thats weird i was that kind of vegetarian exactly, um the pros are that you feel a lot better and you loose weight, cons its hard and its easy to end up eating to many carbs, and if you do become a vegetarian make sure to have a lot of support, good luck and hope this helps
One comment about no plant sources being complete proteins. Soy is a complete protein.
I was a vegetarian for 4 years, and I always hate it when people who eat meat (aka, dead animals, not just beef and chicken!) call themselves vegetarians. Pollo-vegetarian. That's beyond silly! Vegetarians are herbivores, not omnivores.
Everything that the previous person said was accurate except that there are different types of vegetarians.
Total Vegetarians eat only plant food. They do not eat any animal foods, including fish, eggs, dairy products, and honey.
Vegans not only omit all animal products from their diets, but they also eliminate them from the rest of their life. Vegans use nothing from animals, such as leather, wool, and silk.
Lacto-Vegetarians will include dairy products into their diet of plant food.
Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy products.
Pesco-Vegetarians include fish into their diets.
Pollo-Vegetarians eat poultry, such as chicken, turkey, and duck.
