What does a mouth splint do????

Question: I suffer very slighly from tmj and my dentist gave me a mouth splint he never explaied to me what they do.So i was wondering what do they do???
Answers: TMJ is caused by grinding or clenching the teeth, due to stress mostly. This splint could be hard or soft, either way the splint goes over the teeth as a thick layer of protection. This is so when you grind or clench your teeth you are not wearing the teeth away. So eventually it should prevent the ache and also prevent gross wear of the teeth.
Good luck.
