What is the best way to get rid of a mouth ulcer? Bonjela doesn't do anything for me!??

Answers: Gargle in luke warm salty water 4 times a day. :-)
bonjella causes em it dont say that on a tube
c ur dentist n get a script
you need to call your dentist and get some dental paste, they used to call it Kenalog & Oral Base, but I don't think they call it that anymore, after you get the ulcer healed get some Lysine~ my dentist told me I was lacking in some vitiman and that was why I was getting them.... I bought some pills, but I didn't take them, so I can't respond to how that turned out
Have you tried Strepsils,,,lozenge,,
anbesol, its really good, get it from the chemist, you dab it on the ulcer, with a cotton bud, or your finger, works instantly, you can get it in liquid form, which is the one i recommend, and a gel
Bicarbonate of soda and salt really does the trick
swish salk water around in your mouth for a minute. It helps heel any sore in your mouth quicker
Stop telling lies! My mum always told me i got an ulcer cause I told a lie!

Try gargaling with salt water - this should help
It is a little concerning to see that some people think that salt water mouth washes are useless, far from it. They assist in keeping the area clean and act as a desloughing agent and so speed up, to some degree, the healing process.

What some have failed to mention is that mouth ulcers lasting in excess of three weeks or very frequent recurrences may indicate that the mouth ulcer is actually a symptom of an underlying illness.

The two most common underlying conditions that result in frequent mouth ulceration are a condition called Lichen Planus and a more worrying one called Oral Carcinoma.

The key to Lichen Planus is that it is usually bilateral that is to say occurs on both sides at the same time and is usually on the lower gum border infront of the bottom teeth at the sides of the mouth.

Lichen Planus is not in istelf worrying as it is a non-contagious condition and is considered an autosomal response. The risk with mouth ulceration is however if it gets infected - hence the benefit of saline washes (salty water!).

If you are getting frequent ulceration on one side only or lasts greater than about three weeks then arrange a review by your dentist and then that person should make an urgent referral to your local Maxillo-facial department for a professional opinion and more than likely a biopsy under local anaesthetic - ( a really simple procedure).

It is important, however, to reassure you that most mouth ulcers are indeed totally harmless but do keep an eye on them.

The most common type of mouth ulcers are called 'apthous' ulcers. They are probably viral. (though no virus has been identified.)This means they should not be given antibiotics as there have no effect. There behaviour is similar to cold sores, in that they are recurrent, come out when we are run down and we never seem to develop immunity. Here the similarity ends, because unlike herpetic cold sores there is no treatment.

Each ulcer lasts about 10 days, but you can get further crops erupting, so each episode may last longer than that.

Ice,ice cream and cold soft items, become the easiest things to eat. Teething gels sometimes help. There are 2 prescription drugs for apthous ulcers, Corlan Pellets and Adcortyl in Orobase paste. Both are steroids, only reduce the nipping a bit and neither hastens resolution.
rinse mouth with salty water
i am afraid all the so called remedys are a waste of money.a mouth ulcer is caused by a virus and will last ,typically 2 weeks, then it will go away.it is sore,i know, but save your loot and grin.all salt water does is make the little bleeders sting.
I get mouth ulcers a lot and i use Corsodyl Gel, got mine from the dentist but you should be able to get it from the chemist if you want to give it a try. Hope this helps.
In the UK you can get a paste from the chemist over the counter caled, 'Adcortyl in Orabase' for mouth ulsers. It's very good.
adcortyl is the best thing over the counter as its the only thing that helps it heal, bonjela is just a local anaesthetic and antiseptic its a paste that covers it put it on about 15 mins before eating for best effect. only prob is as its a paste sometimes its difficult to apply if the ulcers in an awkward place.
Mouth ulcers are caused by trauma to the delicate membranes that line the mouth, they will heal at the same rate as any other abrasion, however keeping the area clean is important. TCP is a good way to keep the bacteria down and therefore aid healing. It tastes like nothing on earth but a diluted solution will def help and it numbs it too.
