How does surgery for extracting wisdom teeth work??
Question: I'm freaking out here 'cause my dentist referred me to a surgeon to extract my bottom wisdom teeth as they are horizontally positioned. He keeps saying that the surgeon will have to open it . How does this work exactly??
Answers: Well they should give you the choice of IV sedation or similar (which rocks, don't remember a thing) or they do it with a local (novacaine type product so you know what they are doing). they cut your gum open if the tooth isn't poking through all the way, cut the tooth up into 4 or so pieces and remove them. Pretty simple, don't be worried, the wait for the unknown is usually the worst part of the ordeal, unless you get drysocket. Your dentist or oral surgeon will let you know what to do to avoid this (no sucking on straws, no carbonated drinks, no smoking for 24-48 hours post extraction)
Good Luck
I just got mine done 2 weeks ago...I didn't have to go to a surgeon, but he was a dendist that asctually does it in his office..Anyway, my tooth was horizontal...to where the root was on it's side, he gave me a few shots to numb it and by the time he came in to do this, he had cut the crown in 2 and then he a to cut my gum to be able to pull it out,,let me tell you when got done I knew I was going to be in pain...my mouth swelled up like a frickn baseball, and still my jaw hasn't been right since...just whatever you do be sure to keep your head up and don't let it down to your chest, cause I think this is what my problem was...But it really isn't as bad as it sounds...it's just the after-math
