What is the best treatment for TMJ Disorder??

Answers: try massaging the muscles involved(usually face shoulders and back of the neck) by all means, avoid the throat area..press the muscles and try to identify the painful sites..If you have identified them, keep on massaging usually with hard slow strokes till tenderness dissappears
Maintain good posture while working at a computer, watching TV, and reading. Take frequent breaks to relieve stressed muscles. Make a habit of relaxing your facial and jaw muscles throughout the day. Avoid eating hard foods, like nuts, candies, and steak.Drink plenty of water every day and get plenty of sleep. Learn relaxation techniques to reduce overall stress and muscle tension in your back, neck, and body. If these doesnt work, you may need to visit the orthodontist to realign your teeth.
the first thing is getting a good doctor that specializes in tmj/tmd not one that is surgery happy and one that wants to do major work on teeth

you can try an over the counter soft mouth retainer and advil
heat to jaw/ear and neck/shoulders
it's important to get heat to all four areas since tmj/tmd affects all
if the advil does not work you can try mild muscle relaxers, from doctor and have him/her make a retainer for you, also a tens unit is great for this but don't over do it., you can buy over net $50 $75, you can administer light facial and jaw and temple and neck massage your self. if go to someone else let them know what you have ahead of time the massages usually over do it and the next day you will regret.
good luck!
I got a custom mouth guard made at the dentist. But I'll be honest, I don't sleep with it much because I'm just not used to it.
A lot of people, including dentists, swear by the NTI-TSS device, it's difficult to describe in just a few paragraphs, so I've included some links below. While it's being touted primarily for headaches/migraine, it works for TMJ disorders caused by grinding or clenching.
