I need twice normal amount of novocaine when having fillings put in, is there a term for this? I'll be going?
Question: I will be going to a new dentist soon and instead of him finding out the hard way (for me) that I need at least 2 maybe 4x the normal dosage of novocaine, I thought I had heard of a term for this?
Answers: are you a Buffalo or what? You dont need more than one shot ,unless the dentist did not give you a proper block.
My husband and son are like that--our DDS uses a PDL syringe. Ask the dentist to use that and give it a try. And of course, inform him/her of your past history and they will want to make sure you are comfy. Good luck!
That can be true of some people. There are a number of variables that can effect a block. Novocaine and the other caines come in different dosage strengths, with and without epinephrine etc.. In other words, there are options/choices that can be considered when giving the nerve block. Placement can be part of the problem and some areas (teeth are harder to block than others). If you inform the dentist and he/she picks up on your anxiety... he/she will pay close attention. The assistant is a good one to start with...she can also speak in your behalf too.
I have been to a number of dentists over the years... there is a knack to it...and some like to blame the patient when it isn't working optimally.
Yes make sure to really point out that it takes awhile to get numb.
Also just a quick fact, ask what they are using, we no longer use novocaine in the dental office.
there are many different anesthetics to use and some take longer to show effects and some do not last long.
it may help if you google some of these before you go so you can have some knowledge about what you are getting.
1. septocaine --we use this one alot
2. lidocaine
3. citnest
i do not know the term for it either but just keep telling the dentist that. i am the same way, need twice the amt, do not get numb very quickly and have been drilled too soon. it sucks. just keep telling them a million times until they beleive you...
