Dentist; TMJ??

Question: if someone is suffering from TMJ will be naturally get better or will they have to go to the dentist asap?
Answers: It is not something that will generally go away on it's own. Your dentist can fit you will a mouth shield to realign your jaw to it's correct position. If that does not work then there are surgical procedures to help repair the damage. My dentist also recommended sleeping on my back because then your lower jaw slides back and your mouth stays open so you can not clench or grind your teeth. If TMJ goes untreated, it can cause headaches, severe jaw pain, inner ear problems and even tooth loss. I would certainly get checked out.
You don't need to see an oral surgeon ASAP. Heat, Motrin and a mouthguard during the night (try a football mouthguard if you can't find a dental splint or mouthguard otherwise) might help you. No gum chewing. If all else fails, an ENT MD could RX meds to hopefully control it and avoid oral surgery.
