Everytime I have a massage, the therapist goes on about "toxins" she has released from my muscles..true??
Question: or exaggeration? If she just wants me to drink more water, that is fine, but I think this is hooey.
Answers: It's quite true, my dear. After having a massage you begin to have better circulation therefore more toxins are being removed from your body, it's a natural process. Drinking more water helps the body actually rid itself of toxins.
I am a massage therapist, and though I don't think your therapist should be 'going on' about the toxins that have been removed it is true that toxins are being removed. She may be exaggerating, but the basis is at least honest.
yep... it's true... if this is something she continually brings up, ask her why... does she detect there is something wrong? do you indulge in toxic habits that she is hoping you'll recognize and stop? such as smoking, drinking, eating bad food?
Why do you think it's hooey? Are you so mistrustful when someone wants to give you a glass of water.
Some people think getting a massage is hooey .
Anyway, to answer your question, your therapist is correct- after a massage , toxins are released from the muscles into the bloodstream. If you don't flush these toxins out of you then the next day you will feel the effects of these toxins (headache, nausea, feeling like youre getting the flu )
Massage can be very pleasant and even therapeutic, but not because of any mystical muscle toxins. It is about manipulating the muscle fibers, which can become kinked and knotted after strenuous exercise.
The extra water is good advice, too, since it helps to flush out the kidneys, keep the body hydrated, and generally give your urinary tract a workout.
It sounds like your massage therapist is doing the right stuff, even if for questionable reasons.
Just be careful about what additional advice you take from this idiot.
