What can be done to increase the credibility of alternative medicines??
Answers: do a proper statistical study to prove that it is as good as the other medicines
If just basing on folk tales and rumor, the credibility is not there
Get the government, pharmaceutical companies, and majority of doctors to stop caring more about money than they do the well being of the people. Other than that...I don't know. You could still TRY to show that it works the same as modern medicine with fewer side effects (and actually treats the problem NOT just the symptom), but you would have to get the research published and into the right hands. Just be careful going about it...you wouldn't want to offend the wrong person either. :) I honestly don't think it will do any good. The foolish are, for the most part, just going to stay fools.
to who is one trying to become credible? if to the establishment it may take a hundred years. to people who have used both sides and the alternative worked better then that would be instant credibility. I personally use both. after reading the medical literature for 40 years i know when to go to my family doctor or when to go for acupuncture or use my herbs, aromatherapy etc. i have a good idea not to go to a holistic doctor with an infection that is stopped by antibiotics. with chronic illness i seek out complimentary medicine so i have already gotten credibility from many non allopathic healers
Credibility, is a relative term. I am an alternative medicines healer and practitioner. You do a good job, then your credibility increases. People go to alternative medicines, when generally conventional medicines do not deliver. It is for the practitioner to see that he/she does a good job of relieving the symptoms of his patients with utmost care and dedication. I practice acupressure, herbal, homeopathy, magnets, hypnosis, and other forms of therapies. I have found that my patients popularize my name by recomending others to take treatment from me.
Isnt that credibility enough?
Be honest to your profession and do not cheat. Your credibility will automatically rise to its zenith.
Wish you all the success in your endeavours.
In time more and more people will move over the the alternative health methods because they work.
Sadly right now we have big pharma claiming to cure all when in fact there are many things that medication is falling very short on, yet we end up on prescription medication for life.
I believe though, in the near future there will be a swing where more doctors will be recommending natural or alternative methods to treat diseases that are not well controlled with the medications.......if for no other reason than because the general public will insist on it.
